This event is a multilayered interactive full day workshop with presentations by literary agents, publishers, producers, and New York Times bestselling authors. The Authorpreneur workshop (Saturday Only) and VIP Mastermind Retreat (Friday and Saturday) are offered by the Corvisiero Literary Agency and guest faculty comprised of industry professionals dedicated to getting books published and adapted into films and television productions.
We offer this wonderful and hands-on workshop to authors of all genres at all levels of their careers with the mindful goal of imparting writing, publishing industry, business, and mindset knowledge, while sharpening skills to attain success in the fastest possible period of time. This is a two-day retreat for authors to really get immersed into honing skills, learning publishing options and industry practices, getting insider tips and guidance on everything from plotting to perfecting their submissions, learning to pitch their work, to learning how publishing and production deals happen and what contracts should look like. In addition to the lectures and hands-on drafting exercises, VIP authors will enjoy mediation sessions, goal-setting practices, and much, much more. The goal of this workshop is to help authors not just think like creative entrepreneurs, but successful Authorpreneurs.
During this full-day workshop, authors have the opportunity to attend various presentations and network with other authors and industry professionals all day long, and during a networking mixer following the event on Saturday afternoon.
Critiques and Pitches:
Authors may also sign up to have their Query Letter, Synopsis, First 10 Pages, and or their Non-Fiction Proposals critiqued before or after the workshop; and they can sign up to pitch literary agents, editors and producers virtually on two different dates the week after the event, after they have revised their materials and are ready to pitch.
We hope you'll join us to elevate your writing careers with both craft and industry knowledge!
In-person registration for the Full Day Workshop on Saturday is $399, and virtual attendance is $149. Seats are limited!

7:20 am Welcome and Introduction to Publishing and Producing
Marisa Corvisiero, Tessa Shaffer, Lisa Gouldy
We will start the morning with introductions to the team and a brief overview of the industries to provide a solid foundation about how books get published and produced into blockbusters or top streaming shows. We will discuss the focus of the workshop, current trends, and our goals to help you become successful AuthorPreneurs.
7:30 am I've Written a Book...What's Next?
Marisa Corvisiero
This session will provide an informative overview about the publishing industry, with a focus on readiness and learning about the best publishing paths available today, and opportunities available to have the work produced into movies and TV shows. The discussion will cover how to prepare for publishing; how each publishing model works; the differences, benefits and drawbacks of publishing independently or with different publishers; and how to diversify these options by using the Hybrid Model to publish faster, increase readership, and earn more income.
8:00 am Working with an Agent versus Publishing Independently
Marisa Corvisiero
This session will provide a clear path and plan for each of the publishing models so that authors can choose and create a plan that works best for them whether they decide to publish traditionally or independently. Authors will learn how to decide when they need a literary agent or when it is best to self publish. We will discuss how to get the work ready to pitch an agent or editor, and how to prepare to publish independently.
8:30 am Perfecting Your Submission Materials
Marisa Corvisiero
In this section we will discuss submission materials needed for pitching agents and publishers. We will cover all of the documents included in the submission package, from query letter, synopsis, first few pages, to proposals for non-fiction work in detail. We will also discuss the different materials that producers will want to see from you on the work and how and when to properly pitch the work.
9:30 am Bringing Books to Screens of Every Size
Marisa Corvisiero & Tessa Shaffer
Now more than ever, streamers and networks are curating their content directly from books: turning "must-see-TV" into "must-read-TV". In this presentation, Marisa Corvisiero and Tessa Shaffer will share how publishing companies and production companies are currently overlapping, how adaptations are affecting every stage of a book's life, and how to know which path--or screen--is right for you.
10:00 am Short coffee break
10:15 am Pitching Fiction and Non-Fiction to the Professionals
Tessa Shaffer & Lisa Gouldy
This informative session will help all writers feel more confident in knowing the ins and outs of what comes next and what publishers as well as producers look for in their pitches. We’ll go over etiquette when pitching to agents, editors and producers; as well as tips on possible scenarios that may arise, and what to do if you can't seem to get past the request stage. Q&A with agents to ask all your burning questions.
10:45 am Demystifying Publishing Deals & Production Contracts
Marisa Corvisiero
In-depth discussion about what happens after work is pitched to publishers, from the offer to the contract, and everything in between, with examples of possible outcomes and solid advice. Important terms are explained and compared to industry standards to help authors set expectations and help them choose the best deals, and negotiate the most favorable terms that lead to success in publishing. We will also discuss how books get movie deals and the different types of contracts apply to each stage of production from option to distribution.
12:00 pm Lunch Break
Lunch, beverages, and dessert will be provided. Be sure to nourish and hydrate!
1:00 pm Film, TV and Everything in Between Panel
Special Guests

2:00 pm Keynote: The Maze of a Writer’s Life
James Dashner
The keynote speaker is #1 New York Times Bestseller, James Dashner, who was the first author to have two young adult books series on the Series Bestseller list at the same time. Fox/Disney produced the Maze Runner movies and has recently announced a reboot, but James will speak to his humble beginnings and writing motivation. He’ll speak to writer’s block–which shows up sometimes as self-doubt, defeat, and missed deadlines, something even the best writers can’t completely avoid–and will share how he works through it. He’ll provide insight and inspiration for writers of all genres.
3:00 pm Successful Author Mindset and Closing Remarks
Embracing the #WriteMindset
Our presentation will close with a brief discussion about getting our heads into the game. In order to be creative we need to be in a creative mindset, but mindset is so much more than embracing creativity. Mindset is everything from efficiency, to growth, and ultimately to success and happiness.
4:00 pm Networking Mixer
Immediately following the workshop Authors are invited to join the Speakers, Agents, Editors, and Staff by the fireplace sitting area for some drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and lots of mingling!

We are in the process of adding more Agents and Editors, so stay tuned!
Adam Chromy - President and Literary Agent | Moveable Type Management
After receiving a degree in finance and management from N.Y.U.’s Stern School of Business and spending a decade as a sales and marketing specialist for technology startups, Adam Chromy decided to blend his love of narrative with his modern entrepreneurial spirit. The result was Artists and Artisans Inc., where for ten years he represented authors with a professional rigor seldom seen in the book business. After hundreds of published books and dozens of bestsellers, Adam relaunched his company as Movable Type Management to better serve clients by offering them the higher visibility afforded by film and television adaptations of their work. Andrea Hurst - President and Literary Agent | Andrea Hurst Literary Management Andrea works as a literary agent with both bestselling and emerging new authors to help polish their book, obtain publication, increase sales, and build their author brand. Andrea brings over 25 years experience in the publishing industry, including her work as a literary agent. She is also a developmental book editor for publishers and authors, a bestselling Amazon author, an instructor for the MFA creative writing program at the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts, and a webinar presenter for Writer's Digest. As a literary agent, she selectively represents high profile adult nonfiction and well-crafted genre fiction Alexandra Grana - Associate Literary Agent | Corvisiero Literary Agency Alex is a recent graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law. She has always loved writing and literature, having completed her B.A. in Professional Writing at Miami University, and is excited to dedicate herself to helping fellow writers pursue publication. When she isn’t reading, she can be found trying a new recipe in the kitchen or prepping for her next DnD session. Alex’s favorite genres are fantasy and horror. She is a sucker for a good magic system, reimagined fairy tales, and poetic prose. Stories by marginalized writers are of particular interest to her. Britny Perilli - Associate Editor | Running Press Britny Perilli (she/they) is an associate editor at Running Press. As a “cross imprint” editor, her focus is on licensed publishing across RP’s Adult, Kids, Studio, and Miniature imprints, but she also works on books for children (non-fiction and YA fiction) and adults (illustrated non-fiction) that explore and celebrate fandom, nerd culture, and the amazing communities that make them up. While all voices are welcome, she is specifically interested in hearing from Black, AAPI, Latine, LGBTQA+, disabled, and other marginalized voices offering their perspectives and work in the areas of pop/geek culture and fandom, and she is prioritizing work by those writers. Specific areas of interest for non-fiction are: video games, tabletop RPGS, anime and manga, beloved/nostalgic IP and brands, genre & foreign film and television, K-dramas, and other geeky spaces and communities. For YA fiction she is looking for: contemporary, upbeat, entertaining stories with passionate protagonists with geeky or nerdy hobbies as well as queer or geeky retellings/adaptations of “traditional” stories, tropes, or media. You can learn more about her wishes on manuscriptwishlist.com. Catherine Ross, Esq. - Associate Literary Agent | Corvisiero Literary Agency Catherine is a recent graduate of Howard University School of Law. Always knowing that her love of books would somehow find its way into her career, Catherine strived to learn about publishing and copyrights law. Along the way, she fell in love with agency work as well. Catherine hopes to bridge both legal and agent services together to serve clients at each stage of the process, and is excited to learn more from Corvisiero. Catherine loves anything from the fantasy genre, from urban to high fantasy, young adult to new adult, she’ll read it all! But honestly she loves anything that has strong world-building, complex characters, and a twist. When Catherine is not reading (a rarity) she is likely watching old horror films or finding new places to travel. Elizabeth Trout - Associate Editor | Kensington Publishing Elizabeth Trout is an associate editor at Kensington Publishing. An Ohio native and graduate of Kenyon College, Elizabeth began her publishing career working for literary agents before moving over to the editorial department at Kensington in 2018. From light-hearted romps to creepy gothic-tinged novels, she edits and acquires a broad range of fiction. Recent and upcoming books on her list include THE FIRST DATE PROPHECY by Kate & Danny Tamberelli, HER LITTLE FLOWERS by Shannon Morgan, REASONABLE ADULTS by Robin Lefler, and IF THE TIDE TURNS by Rachel Rueckert. Katie Reed - Senior Agent, Agent Scout & Developmental Editor | Andrea Hurst Literary Management Katie Reed began her career in publishing with Andrea Hurst Literary Management while pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in English and has worked in the publishing field for over a decade. As a literary agent, Katie loves discovering new talent, building lasting connections with her authors, and working diligently to represent books readers will love. Marisa Corvisiero, Esq. - President & Literary Agent | Corvisiero Literary Agency Marisa A. Corvisiero is the founder and President of the Corvisiero Literary Agency, an attorney, and our Senior Literary Agent. During the few years prior to starting her own agency, Marisa worked with another well known New York City Literary Agency, where she learned invaluable lessons and made a name for herself in the industry. She is also a Literary Consultant, Speaker, Author and continues to practice law in New York City with specialties in Publishing, Corporate, and Trust & Estates. As an attorney she has published several articles in her practice areas, is a member of the New York Bar Association, and has experience in Top Global Firms and Fortune 500 companies where she practiced Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Finance, Banking and Compliance before starting her own Practice and Literary Agency. She has attended over 100 conferences and workshops, and continues to present on webinars, tutorials, and bootcamps for Writer's Digest among other reputable sources, as well as hosting her own Author Preneur Workshops, where she teaches and coaches authors on writing, mindset, and publishing as a business. Maggie Sadler - Associate Literary Agent | Corvisiero Literary Agency After five years of literary scholarship, Maggie Sadler is motivated to apply her knowledge of literature and craft to the industry as an Associate Agent at Corvisiero Literary Agency. Maggie earned her joint degree in Comparative Literature and English in 2016 from the University of St Andrews, a historical university tucked away in a tiny windswept Scottish town along the North Sea. A sea sprite at heart, Maggie returned to the North Atlantic coast to earn her Master’s in Literary Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2019. The intricate, vivid, and deep-rooted folk traditions Maggie encountered in both Scotland and Newfoundland further enriched her literary interest in folklore, mainly the seafaring lore intrinsic to small North Atlantic communities. After these unexpected adventures, Maggie now calls rural Michigan home, where she daydreams amongst the wildflowers with her rascally horse. She is currently working on a novel of her own, full of wild coasts, mysterious sea chests, and feral girls with monstrous secrets.
