​Shawni Mitchell 

Shawni Mitchell discovered her love for world-building and storytelling while listening to Enya and imagining herself into fairy dream worlds as a child. It later crept up again as she was writing her master’s thesis in sustainability where all the doom and gloom led her to daydream about utopian futures. That’s when everything clicked.

Now she writes and illustrates adventurous and fantastical stories for young people, from whimsical picture books to speculative YA. She credits her upbringing in the Pacific Northwest for her love of nature and the subsequent habit of including a forest in nearly every story she writes. Shawni now lives in an equally rainy place in southern Sweden where she can be found perusing second-hand stores, tending to her balcony garden and sometimes roller skating, albeit not so gracefully.
