Saakshi Patel - Literary Intern
Saakshi is happiest when left alone with a volume of John Keats’ poetry and a bowl of dark chocolate ice cream. While she likes historical fiction and romance, she finds picture books the most compelling and believes in their power to work magic on children and adults alike.
Saakshi is completing a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Language at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She has worked as an intern at Vakil’s publishing house, Kahani Tree bookstore and Kitab Khana bookstore in Mumbai, India. She was an editor for her university’s undergraduate literary journal, The Garden Statuary, and her work has appeared in The Ubyssey, ONE andArtists in Residence. She is also a member of UBC’s English Students’ Association.
Apart from books, drama and music, Saakshi’s hobbies include overthinking, staring into space and falling in love with strangers.
Saakshi’s favourite things to read: The Heart and the Bottle by Oliver Jeffers, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier, The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly and almost anything written in verse.
