Kelly Conroy is a picture book writer who loves all things silly and whimsical.
She spent the first portion of her life studying mathematics and became a credentialed actuary. However, the birth of her first son reminded Kelly what is truly important to her, and she turned her problem solving skills to storytelling. She sees picture books as puzzles that have to be solved with words rather than numbers, and her goal is to make kids happier and more confident.
She is actively involved with SCBWI and was Event Coordinator for the 2019 PA West Fall Conference. She won a #PBChat mentorship with Lori Degman, attended the Rutgers University Council on Children’s Literature, and has placed in multiple writing contests. She was initially inspired to write by her cousins, Stan and Jan Berenstain, creators of the Berenstain Bears, and continues to be inspired by her two rambunctious sons.
Kelly lives in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA with her husband, sons, and their mini goldendoodle, Chewy. In her free time, Kelly enjoys going on adventures with her family, exercising, and meeting friends for coffee.
