Rebekah Montgomery - Literary Intern
Words and stories have fascinated Rebekah all her life. It's been a love affair. An obsession. An addiction. They invade her earliest memories: sitting perched hungrily upon her father's lap as she begged for just one more of the old stories and rhymes from the heavy red leather book, rich with illustrations that was already her favorite possession.
Once she had the power. Once she learned to read those words for herself, her desire to read them all was insatiable.
She grew into wanting desperately to write, but having no literary role models in the days before the internet, it seemed like just another fairytale. So, she put it in her pocket, zipped it closed and tried on more than a few less-literary vocations, most of which involved staplers and spreadsheets and required the wearing of sensible heels (okay, some involved bright lights and stages and belting into microphones with guitars blasting her eardrums while wearing terrifically non-sensible heels, but that’s a story for another day).
Eventually, she found her way into publishing where she has been blissfully helping other writers navigate their way through the sometimes-murky waters of the industry ever since. She only wishes there had been someone to tell her that jobs as agents and editors existed when she was younger!
An experienced content and developmental editor, Rebekah has worked with private clients, consultancies, and publishers around the world. She has also worked as an acquisitions reader, freelance writer, reviewer, publicity consultant, writing coach, and publisher. When she isn't working to help others make their writing dreams a reality, she's busy scribbling things herself.
Her other loves include dark chocolate, sexy accents, coffee, sushi, and honey whiskey though not necessarily in that order. She was born with a gypsy soul, so you may have to ask her where in the world she is writing from this week.
When it comes to books, her tastes are eclectic. She loves almost anything YA and MG when the story is good but is especially partial in all age categories to Sci-Fi & Dystopia. She also loves Fantasy but leans towards the modern, dark, and imaginative. She adores Magical Realism! She’s also a fan of Literary Fiction, smart dark and twisty Mysteries and Psychological Thrillers. And she’s a fan of books in any genre told with intelligence and wit. The more layered and complex something is, the more it makes her think or pushes boundaries, the more she loves it. Some of her favorite authors include Gaiman, Atwood, Lowry, Card, King, Sebold, Flynn, Sagan, Niffenegger, Vonnegut, Dick, and Heinlein.
